Hi my Readers 🙂
With everything going on, many became aware about the downside of wearing mask.
While there are many misconceptions about this topic, I will address my thoughts on it. As I wrote previously – question everything.
Since in my country is mandatory to wear mask in general public and in closed and dense areas, here are my thoughts on it.
Skin
The first thing: redness. And not some usual redness – but the kind you want to claw your skin away! It hurts, it scratches, it spreads across the whole face and lasts for a long time. It felt like tearing the skin down! The day I put the mask back on – it reappears, seemingly stronger than before.
I cannot explain how I felt. I tried every possible cream and medical creams I had – nothing helped.
You know what made it worse? Seeing people not maintaining distance and not wearing any mask!
OxygenÂ
Mask might not lower your oxygen level…for the first few minutes. But as you wear it – it might. Depends on the conditions. Doctors wear it in well air conditioned area. We can’t compare that to an open market where it is boiling hot. You can wear it for a while but for people working there can be cruel.
„There is some evidence that N95s can lead to changes in oxygen and carbon dioxide levels when used for long periods, especially by people who are obese or have chronic lung issues. Тhey are not meant for long-term use and doctors try to take breaks from them. They have not been recommended for the general public.“
Coming from a country that battles with air pollution, I am quite familiar of the N95 masks and how they protect. Been reading and watching experiments just to inform myself on different types of masks.
I’ve been wearing N95 in winter when the air quality is very high. But lately I’ve been experiencing some trouble. Granted, I have not changed that mask because since this chaos began, there is constant deficit and I am not comfortable wearing any other mask so I ended up disinfecting the fabric. But have to mention that I have not been using it for that long of a time. (As I am writing this, my balcony door is open and it has been a long time since I’ve smelled the polluted air, but it is happening right now and it kinda creeping me out 😀 what a coincidence… and I just checked the pollution levels – they are high!).
Wearing a mask when you go off the bike
Living in warm areas: when outside is 35°C – 40°C, wearing a mask can cause heat stroke. I rode a bike the other day. It was boiling hot. I went to get some thing, was wearing the mask in open market and I could barely stand it. Imagine how older people feel or chronically ill people feel…
I rode a bike, park it right outside the institutions or stores. Right when I go off the bike I place the mask. And it was all too much!
You know how I felt that evening? – Like going to the emergency room in this conditions. Yes, the very thing that I was protecting myself from, I could have gotten it just by that – protecting myself.
But there is an upside too and you can read all about it by clicking here 🙂
Your best bet is to stay home and avoid unnecessary gatherings. If you have to go out, disinfect your hands before you handle your mask and touch your face.
Stay safe!Â
Remember to support your local stores and businesses in this weird times even if it is little bit inconvenient for you, it will mean great deal to them!
Have a good one,
